The Promissory Note

I am part of the Rainbow Toastmasters in San Francisco. It is a wonderful club where we practice public speaking and have a lot of fun. For that club’s contest last February, I prepared this speech, The Promissory Note. This speech tells my story of becoming a US citizen and my reflection on US history. You will hear some wonderful quotes which I hope are familiar.

Toastmasters Bay to Bay invited me to speak on camera to show a larger audience what toastmasters does. I took the opportunity to give the speech again, and you can watch it here.

The video shows a portion of what a toastmasters meeting looks like. An MC., called the Toastmaster, opens the meeting, introduces the speaker and ensures a good flow. Here you see fellow Rainbow Toastmaster Robin Pomerance. Each speech is evaluated so you can learn, improve and gain confidence. On regular meetings, prepared speeches are followed by Table Topics. Table Topics are two minute impromptu speeches. For many, those are the most fun and the reason a Toastmasters meeting is always energetic and surprising. I suggest you check us out one day soon.
